Topic: X-QuaSaT - x264 settings quality/speed/bitrate/cpuload analyse tool

--->>> X-QuaSaT 1.6.11 (23.11.2012) <<<---
        - x264 Quality and Speed analyse Tool -

X-QuaSaT is a tool for automatic analysation of speed and quality that
different constellations of x264 settings result in, that shall help you to
find your optimal x264 settings.

The idea is to continuously let it raise the parameters of the x264-settings

- quantization
- reference-frames
- b-frames
- motion estimation
- Psy-rate distortion/trellis

in loop.

All of those settings can (if you want to, depends on your settings)
automatically be tested in all thinkable parameter-constellations with a
bunch of test-clips you put in X-QuaSaT's "VIDEOFILES" folder.

It will create a statistic-file, that shows you the effects of the combinated
parameters to:

- SSIM
- PSNR
- bitrate
- encoding speed
- quantitative usage of B-frames (BF_USED)
- quantitative usage of P-frames (PF_USED)
- quantitative usage of I-frames (IF_USED)
- effective usage of the CPU

It will build the average out of all used test clips and log every
parameter-constellation in one line.

Other configurable parameters are:

- Pixel motion
- Pixel search range
- Trellis quantization
- Encodingmode
- Adaptive quantization mode
- Adaptive quantization strength

You can also keep the temporary generated videos, to have a closer look on
some of them after having a look to the statistic file.

I added a screenshot of the main menue because a picture can say more than a thousand words: wink

Thanks to Selur for his testing-support and suggestions in the time of developing smile

IMPORTANT: Run X-QuaSaT with admin-account, or CPU load measurement won't work!

Thank you, will check it out.

The anonymous link appears to be down.
Link for forum members only works fine.

Re: X-QuaSaT - x264 settings quality/speed/bitrate/cpuload analyse tool

Hi spartank,

thank you for that information smile
can you tell me how you tried to download the file (which browser/ftp-client)?
Would like to rebuild the mistake...
And can you simply try again? I think I know what was the problem, but I'm not really sure.

Re: X-QuaSaT - x264 settings quality/speed/bitrate/cpuload analyse tool

THanks, the FTP seems to be working now.

Yesterday I tried the ftp link about 4-5 times with no success.

Google Chrome browser on Windows 7.

Re: X-QuaSaT - x264 settings quality/speed/bitrate/cpuload analyse tool

Thanks for your answer, i hope all works fine now.

And I recommend a less data collecting browser with a working ftp-client to you, like firefox wink

Re: X-QuaSaT - x264 settings quality/speed/bitrate/cpuload analyse tool

Changelog 1.6.10 (28.10.2012):

- Added 32 bit x264 support
- CPU-load measurement will now terminate correctly under Windows XP
- some more x264 errors will be detected

Re: X-QuaSaT - x264 settings quality/speed/bitrate/cpuload analyse tool

NEW 31.10.2012:

Some diagrams and graphical worked up x-QuaSaT statistics can be viewed at my new website.
The Open Office ods-source tables and the csv-files they were created from are available, too.

Re: X-QuaSaT - x264 settings quality/speed/bitrate/cpuload analyse tool

can be viewed at my new website.

Why are you not directly linking to http://www.ligh.de/software/X-QuaSaT/index.html ? (Above you posted a ftp link,..)

PM to mogobime at selur.de

you might want to use forum.selur.de instead of 'selur.de' wink

I've set up a web-server now, that redirects to the webspace:
http://x-quasat.redirectme.net

you might want to use forum.selur.de instead of 'selur.de' wink

Changed... Didn't think about that this looks like selur.de is my website and you might get the spam wink

Re: X-QuaSaT - x264 settings quality/speed/bitrate/cpuload analyse tool

NEWS 02.11.2012:
Pooh, this was some hard work for me and my pc.
By the way, the big trellis comparison with html-tables and diagrams, based on X-QuaSaT statistic is ready on my website!
the diagrams and tables refer to quantizer 19+20 with trellis 0-2 (respectively reference-frames 5-9 and b-frames 3-11).
I marked at least the best three candidates with the help of a estimation matrix depending on quality, speed and bitrate.
Additionally there are bar diagrams showing quality / speed / bitrate of all tested combinations. Combinations that for example achived high quality because of a bitrate higher than average were ignored (they're marked grey in the tables).

I hope somebody has some usage for this.

Re: X-QuaSaT - x264 settings quality/speed/bitrate/cpuload analyse tool

if you color the results, it might help to add a legend that explains meaning behind the color choice,.. smile

13

Re: X-QuaSaT - x264 settings quality/speed/bitrate/cpuload analyse tool

ehmmm ... black on black .... is not really the best choice,.. smile

Re: X-QuaSaT - x264 settings quality/speed/bitrate/cpuload analyse tool

This was a mistake I made with the frame. Sorry for that roll

It's fixed now and the tables are starting as parent process in a new window, this is what i truely wanted.
Aside from that I added Return-Buttons on all frames and sub-pages.

Re: X-QuaSaT - x264 settings quality/speed/bitrate/cpuload analyse tool

while at it you might want to use a lighter blue tone, sine black text an dark blue isn't really good to read wink

16

Re: X-QuaSaT - x264 settings quality/speed/bitrate/cpuload analyse tool

the problem is, that firefox decides the color of the hyperlinks in relation to the background.
IE for example colors the hyperlinks in a lighter blue.

I have no idea how to change this with OpenOffice / Seamonkey. Any idea?

17

Re: X-QuaSaT - x264 settings quality/speed/bitrate/cpuload analyse tool

manually setting the color,... (http://de.selfhtml.org/html/dateiweit/farben.htm)

Re: X-QuaSaT - x264 settings quality/speed/bitrate/cpuload analyse tool

I was hoping there is a faster way.
I can't believe that both progs can't handle that correctly, with OpenOffice it's possible in some cases, for example if a line break follows...
Seems so i have to do it with my bare hands mad

Argh! The html source created by this tools looks really awful
Could be shrinked to the half size hmm

Re: X-QuaSaT - x264 settings quality/speed/bitrate/cpuload analyse tool

All done now smile
And all because of my crazy colour scheme...

Re: X-QuaSaT - x264 settings quality/speed/bitrate/cpuload analyse tool

Changelog 1.6.11 (23.11.2012):

- bugfix: statistic file write error isn't reported falsely anymore in non-german windows versions.

Re: X-QuaSaT - x264 settings quality/speed/bitrate/cpuload analyse tool

Feature request: x265 support

22

Re: X-QuaSaT - x264 settings quality/speed/bitrate/cpuload analyse tool

Sorry for not beeing here for a while roll

Personally I don't use x265 because my hardware decoder doesn't support it.
I don't think I will find time to continue developing X-QuaSaT even if I think x265 support would be useful nowadays - and I'm a little bit tired of batch scripting in this dimension. I think very few people use X-QuaSaT because of the very oldskool user interface wink
